6:07 pm, Jen just called. We are supposed to be going over to Marin’s place for birthday dinners of Nathan, my Mom, and Jen. She called about ten minutes ago saying that she is getting ready. Since she called, I showered, dressed, and got back to work. Working on an email app for my phone. The time is getting soon in which I am going to tell Jen about this blog. This could very well be the last post. Or maybe one more to tell you how she took it. Don’t worry the saga will continue.
See Jen is always late because her mind is consistently preoccupied with scenarios of which she needs to prepare for. I was teaching her how to drive a stick when she started asking questions about what would happen if she was going through a green light and someone ran their red and she needed to make a sharp turn. First Jen, learn how not to stall the car when you take off, then we will worry about the sharp turn. Jen also has too many clothes. I get on her for not shopping because she needs to save the money, but even if she had the money I would still discourage the act. Mainly because it is presenting Jen with too many choices, and when too many choices are present she get consumed with the numerous possibilities, thus being late.
Remember me talking about poly chronic cultures. My friend Henry is from one of those cultures, and aside from Jen and my sisters he is one of the most poly chronic people I know.
The theory goes like this. There are two type of cultures, monchronic (always on time) and polychronic, show up when they show up. They both have meeting at 2:00 pm. A monchronic on his way across the street to his meeting sees an old friend that he has not seen in a while. He gets his phone number so he can call him later and rushed to the meeting. A polychromic has a meeting at two and sees his buddy who he just saw the day before and will have a fifteen minute chat with him and will show up to his meeting about 20 minutes late.
Henry has a meeting at 2:00pm, we go to lunch and I notice that his meeting starts in 5 minutes. Leaving the restaurant he then decides to go to the store and get some smokes. While in the store looks for some incents, which are Indian, which are hard to find. Buys those, and heads to his meeting. While waiting for the one of the people he is meeting with we begin talking about something. When I was headed to my cube we spend another couple minutes finishing up the conversation. That my friends is polychronic.
With Jen, we will be running late, but she can go five minutes out of the way to see the Father of the Bride house, which we have seen, a lot. Come to think of it, I am not sure if I know any monochronics. Probably my mom. Interesting. Going to call Jen because we need to go to the store as well.
Just called her, she is on her why. Hope she likes the site. You know I always sketch when she is late for family stuff, but aside from my Mom, we are always late. But I have gotten better, since Jen.
She showed up at 6:40. She said that she wasn’t late because she was supposed to be around 6ish. Hmm, no I told her at 6:00pm. See I have found out that when she says 6ish it means between 6 – 7, more towards 7. But when she is late she is only off by a number, not in minutes or hours. Very interesting I tell you.
